Activity

From MB Wiki

An activity is the smallest consistent physical movement recorded for a period of time of a single activity type without significant pause. A run would be an Activity, whereas a Triathlon would consist of a Run activity, but the Triathlon would be an Event that contains three activities.

Often times an activity will have other measurements like distance, average speed or Heart Rate. All activities at MotionBased are stored in the Digest.

Currently all activities at MotionBased have detailed GPS information which provides most of the measurements, however, an Activity as defined by MotionBased does not require GPS information. We will be providing the ability to enter a non-GPS activity before too long.

Components

There is structure to an activity stored at MotionBased which help control its behavior.

Owner

The person who originally sent the Activity to MotionBased. Usually the participant, the owner has full control over the Activity. As the owner, the Activity is stored in the owner's Digest which may be modified or deleted.

Name

Essentially, the Title of the Activity that should be displayed. This should be a concise, accurate description of the activity performed. Usually it is the route the participant ran which is helpful to quickly understand the activity being viewed.

Activity Type

The category of the activity performed. Run, bike, swim, etc. Each Activity Type may have one or more subtypes to help clarify more specifically which action was being performed...often times depending on the type of equipment or terrain.

Event Type

The purpose for performing the activity. Training, racing or recreation are many reasons to perform an activity. Categorizing the purpose will help us understand the effort put into the activity. For instance, a race may go much faster than recreation or transportation when referring to cycling.

Permissions

Each activity has a permissions assigned to it. These permissions regulate who is allowed to view the activity.

Public

Public Activities are activities that are shared with anyone. Many people will keep most of their activities public while others will want to protect activities that leave from home or other personal identifying places.

Private

Private Activities are not shared with anyone. Only the owner of the activity is allowed to view the activity.

Group

Not yet implemented, but Group permissions will allow you to assign members of a group to view your activities. There will be standard groups like Friends and Family, but you will also be able to create your own group and invite certain members in to the group. This feature allows you to share your activities without having to control each person that is authorized to view, but rather assign the permissions to the Group and manage who is in the Group. If someone stops being your friend then it is easier to remove this person from the Group rather than changing the preferences of each activity that was assigned to that individual.

Customer Service

Of course customer service and other authorized personnel of MotionBased are authorized to view and edit all activities.

Functions

Activity Options

In the Dashboard, Analyzer, and MapPlayer windows, there is a tab in the upper right that is called Activity Options. At this time we have just two options, delete and edit.

Edit

Here you can change your activity if you aren't satisfied with the title or want to add comments. Maybe you used MB Gravity and want to see what your activity is like without it. You can also check or uncheck corrections for your activity.

Delete

The word says it all. You will be given a warning before you delete. Once you confirm it, this activity is gone forever unless you have it on your unit or a backup file.

Questions

Why does my activity have the date of 2014?

After you upgrade your firmware to 3.00 make sure you give a lot of "warm up" time to your device before starting your workout. Failure to do so will result in the first activity being a goner and will be unrecoverable. Yes, you will be transported to the year 2014.

So make sure you let your device warm up especially long before pressing start.

Usually the activity doesn't make it into your inbox and fails in upload. During those rare times when it makes it in, we ask you to delete it because the interaction in our Database with that date can cause problems.
