Distance Profile In this chart, the change in Distance is on the horizontal axis, plotted against Time on the vertical axis. This chart is the inverse of the Time Profile. What can you learn from this? Trends can be detected by observing how distance was traveled over time. For example, in the example below, notice that the participant completed the course at a relatively steady pace. In essence, the more horizontal the line is the slower the participant was going, the steeper the line is the faster the participant is going. This line would be flat if you stood still and vertical if you were transported instantly. If you went constant speed the entire time, you would have a non-changing diagonal line.

  • Plot Options Distance vs. Time is the only option.
  • Display Options Add Elevation by clicking the check-box to add the Elevation profile as a layer. The Elevation Profile is a line displaying the changing altitude plotted against Distance. The elevation ticks are displayed on the right side of the chart.

Distance Categories This is a different way of looking at how much time transpired for each mile category. Imagine during ride, the participant was carrying buckets. Each mile he filled up his bucket with time, and at the end of the mile, placed his bucket down and picked up a new empty one. At the end of the ride MotionBased has collected all the buckets and placed them together in this chart. Each category is about a mile and displays how much time was collected for that mile. We learn that the 1st, 3rd, and 4th miles took the most time by the participant.

  • Plot Options Distance vs. Time is the only current option.
  • Display Options Click on the Elevation Change check-box to see two lines appear, one is the graph of Elevation Gain, and one is the graph of Elevation Loss.

Vertical Division This chart divides your activity into 3 portions:

  1. Ascent: This represents the portion of distance that was performed on the up hills.
  2. Descent: This represents the portion of distance that was performed on the down hills.
  3. Flat: This represents the portion of distance that was performed on the flats.

  • Display Options Checking the Display check-box will move this pie chart to the left and insert the Vertical Division for Moving Duration (Time) on the right. Here, we look at ascent and descent in two different lights. One perspective is the Distance perspective, in which we see that looking at distance covered (the left chart), Ascent and Descant were pretty much the same. The other perspective is the Moving Duration (Time) perspective, in which we see that time-wise the participant spent considerably more time on the ascents, than the descents - a tough workout.
