Category:Dashboard Speed
From MB Wiki
Where the Time section of the Dashboard displays specific time related data from your activity, MotionBased groups your time in the following way under the Speed category:
Speed Data (popular with cyclists) and Pace Data (popular with Runners).
Specific Speed Data
- Overall Speed - the average speed for the entire activity from start to finish. Includes stopped time.
- Moving Speed - the average speed calculated using time in-motion (total time minus the stopped time), also displayed as percentage of moving time.
- Ascent - the average speed calculated using only your moving time and only the distance that was on uphills, also displayed as percentage of the total ascending time.
- Descent - the average speed calculated using only your moving time and only the distance that was on downhills, also displayed as percentage of the total descending time.
- Flat - the average speed calculated using only your moving time and only the distance that was on flat ground, also displayed as percentage of moving time.
Specific Pace Data
- Overall Pace - the average pace (minutes/mile) for the entire activity from start to finish. Includes stopped time.
- Moving Pace - the average pace calculated using time in-motion (total time minus the stopped time), also displayed as a percent.
- Ascent - the average pace calculated using only your moving time and only the distance that was on uphills, also displayed as a percentage of moving time.
- Descent - the average pace calculated using only your moving time and only the distance that was on downhills, also displayed as a percentage of moving time.
- Flat - the average pace calculated using only your moving time and only the distance that was on flat ground, also displayed as a percentage of moving time.
Relevant Charts
Speed Profile In this chart, the change in Speed is on the vertical axis, plotted against Distance (or Time) on the horizontal access. What can you learn from this? Trends can be detected by observing how your speed increased or decreased during your activity.
- Plot Options Vertical Axis:
- Speed - miles/hour (popular with cyclists)
- Pace - minutes/mile (popular with runners)
- Plot Options Horizontal Axis:
- Distance
- Time
- Display Options Elevation - click the check-box to add the Elevation profile as a layer. The Elevation Profile is a line displaying the changing altitude plotted against Distance. The elevation ticks are displayed on the right side of the chart.
Speed Categories This is a different way of looking at how much time transpired for each mile category. Imagine during the above example, the participant was carrying buckets. Each mile he filled up his bucket with time, and at the end of the mile, placed his bucket down and picked up a new empty one. At the end of the activity MotionBased has collected all the buckets and placed them together in this chart. Each category is about a mile and displays how much time was collected for that mile. We learn that the 1st, 5th, and 7th miles took the most time by the participant.
- Plot Options Speed or Pace vs. Distance and Time or Elevation and Time
