From MB Wiki

The Time section of the Dashboard displays specific time related data from your activity. MotionBased groups your time in the following way:

  • Total Time - the duration of activity from start to finish, also displayed as a percent.
  • Moving Time - the total amount of time in motion, also displayed as a percent of the total time.
  • Ascent - the portion of your moving time that was on ascents, also displayed as a percent of the total time.
  • Descent - the portion of your moving time that was on descents, also displayed as a percent of the total time.
  • Flat - the portion of your moving time that was on the flats, also displayed as a percent of the total time.
  • Stopped Time - The portion of time from your Activity in which you were stopped, also displayed as a percent of the total time. In addition, you are presented the number of stops that occurred during your activity. Currently MotionBased defines a stop as being immobile for at least 30 seconds.

Time Profile In this chart, the change in Time is on the horizontal axis, plotted against Distance on the vertical axis. What can you learn from this? Trends in performance can be detected by observing how time transpired over distance. For example, looking at the above example, in the first 4 miles, we see a line which steeply rises in the first three miles and levels out for about the next mile. This signifies that the participant spent more time covering the first 3 miles and then much less time covering the next mile. The more horizontal the line is the, faster the participant was going; the steeper the line is, the slower the participant is going. This line would be vertical if you stood still, and perfectly horizontal if you were transported instantly. If you move at a constant speed the entire time, you will have a non-changing diagonal line.

Plot Options Time vs. Distance can be enhanced to show the elevation data. Click the check-box to add the Elevation Profile as a layer. The Elevation Profile is a line displaying the changing altitude plotted against Distance. The elevation ticks are displayed on the right side of the chart. Notice in the above example that during each downhill, the slope of the Time Profile became more flat.

Time Categories This is a different way of looking at how much distance was covered for each time category. During the above example, the participant was carrying different "buckets", filling them with miles. Every few minutes, he placed his bucket down and picked up a new empty one. At the end of the activity MotionBased has collected all the buckets and placed them in this chart. Each category is about 1.6 minutes and displays how many miles collected during that time period. We learn from this chart that the participant covered the most distance between the first hour of the activity.

  • Display Options: Click on the Elevation Change check-box to see two lines appear, one is the graph of Elevation Gain, and one is the graph of Elevation Loss.

Vertical Division This chart divides your activity into 3 portions:

  1. Ascent: This represents the portion of time that was performed on the uphill.
  2. Descent: This represents the portion of the activity that was performed on the downhill.
  3. Flat: This represents the portion of the activity that was performed on the flats.
