Overview

The Edge 305 (http://www.garmin.com/products/edge305/) is a Garmin fitness GPS device designed for cycling.

The Edge 305 comes packaged with a heart rate monitor and/or wireless speed/pedaling cadence sensor to provide valuable feedback. In addition, the Edge 305 incorporates a barometric altimeter for extremely accurate elevation and vertical profile data (graphically and numerically with cumulative elevation gain and loss).

Designed for cyclist of all levels, this GPS enabled cycling computer continuously monitors your speed, distance, elevation, pace, calories burned, and heart rate and/or cadence so you can train smarter, more effectively. It tracks your every move with a super-sensitive GPS that even works on tree-covered rides and near tall buildings. The Edge 305 keeps you on track with innovative features including:

  • Sleek, stylish, lightweight design that mounts on your stem or handle bar.
  • High sensitivity GPS receiver provides faster acquisition times and improves tracking under trees and near tall buildings
  • Barometric Altimeter for more accurate elevation data
  • Customizable screens let you view up to 16 data fields (8 per screen with two data screens) for immediate feedback on the information you need most when training
  • Easy to use. No calibration required, easily moves between bikes. Just turn it on and go
  • Courses functionality

Firmware

Having the latest firmware on your device, ensures that you're getting optimal performance. Even out of the box, a newer version may be available. Firmware updates can add functionality, resolve bugs, and enhance performance.

What firmware version is on my device?

The device firmware version can be found in two places:

  • Device
  • MotionBased Dashboard

Device

Follow these steps to see the firmware version on an Edge:

  1. Select 'Settings' option on Main Menu

  4. Select 'About Edge'

  5. And finally there it is 'Software version 2.40'

  6. Now, check Edge 305 Software Update  (http://www.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00447-00) to see the latest version.
  7. If the version is old, update the device with the WebUpdater

Troubleshoot

If the system doesn't turn on a hard reset may solve the problem. Press the power, mode and reset buttons simultaneously to reset the device.

MotionBased Dashboard

While MotionBased is communicating with GPS devices, we check the device firmware version and display it with each activity. Enabling you to see the firmware version used to record your activities, and any activity in the TrailNetwork.(This only applies to activities on MotoinBased uploaded with the MotionBased Agent.)

The firmware version is displayed in the 'Equipment' section of the Dashboard. Follow these steps to get there:

  1. While viewing an activity in the Dashboard
  2. Click the 'Equipment' link in the 'Activity Dashboard' on the left.

  3. The device firmware is displayed in the top right.

  4. Now, check Edge 305 Software Update  (http://www.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00447-00) to see the latest version.
  5. If it's old, update the device with the Garmin WebUpdater.

How do I update my firmware?

  • Use the Garmin WebUpdater - the most efficient and suggested path to get the latest firmware on your device.

or

  • Download .rgn file - we don't encourage this path, it's more advanced and doesn't check for updates. But if you need a local copy, you can download the Edge 305 firmware (unit software) (http://www.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00447-00).

How do I delete ALL history?

Often done to remove corrupt data and expedite uploads (specific to the Mac Web Agent). Back up data before deleting!!

  • Press 'mode' button to 'Main Menu' screen
  • Select 'History'
  • Select 'Delete'
  • Select 'Delete All'
