Google Earth: Create Elevation
From MB Wiki
To create distance and elevation information from Google Earth without having tracked with a GPS device, follow these steps:
- Create Google Earth Path (must have GE plus account), save as klm
- Go to http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert and convert kml to gpx:
- Download and install http://www.topofusion.com/registered.php (lisence required) (note - doesn't work behind proxies)
- Open gpx up in topofusion
- Choose Analysis, Climbing Analysis
- Choose Add Elevation to Track and make sure the US dataset is checked?
- Save the gpx by right clicking on it in the bottom window.
- Download and extract: http://www.gpsbabel.org
- Open the gpx saved above and export to tab delimited file
- Open Excel and IMPORT the file using the import data and choose Windows ANSI for the characters? the rest should be ok.
- That will give you lat/lon/elevation and distance? as well as a lot of other data sets you don't need.
