Smart Recording
From MB Wiki
When the device is set to Smart Recording, course/track points are recorded whenever necessary. The device is constantly monitoring changes in direction, speed, and elevation, and captures a course/track point when it detects change. It could be every second if you're travelling fast on tight turns, or minutes if you're stopped or moving very, very slowly. Unless you're doing short short track activities or super fast downhill runs, Smart Recording is the most accurate and recommended recording setting.
Benefits
- Saves Device Memory - Devices have a limited active memory storage. The device can only record so much data before it's full. Each device may be different, but with most fitness devices once the active memory is full it overwrites or eats away and erases from the beginning of your current activity. Smart Recording preserves your active memory.
- Faster MotionBased - smaller files translate to faster upload processing and page loading on MotionBased.
Note: Some activities may take a slow time to load simply because they are very long. You should check the number of trackpoints recorded by your device (available in the Equipment section of the Dashboard). Anything more than 3000 trackpoints will cause noticible delays when loading the Map Player, Player and Analyzer. The Dashboard will be slow to resond too. Large activities do not affect the TrailNetwork nor My Activities Table View, but may affect the Digest Map View.
How do I change my device back to Smart Recoding?
Note: Every second recording is only available on new generation Garmin fitness devices (Forerunner X05, Edge X05)
