Troubleshooting:Other Devices:eTrex Vista:Turns Off

From MB Wiki

Vibrations will cause your batteries to move inside the unit generating micro-sparks which in turn will generate a microscopic deposit that will isolate the contacts and shut the unit down.

Solutions include:

  1. Reduce the vibrations to which the unit is subjected
  2. Reduce the movement of your batteries by putting a single layer of electrical tape on the bottom of their bedding inside the unit
  3. You can also add a tiny neoprene pad between the contacts leaf springs to reinforce them
  4. Finally you can stop the buildup on the contacts by smearing dielectric grease on them so you isolate them from the atmospheric oxygen
