Troubleshooting:Other Devices:eTrex Vista:Turns Off
From MB Wiki
Vibrations will cause your batteries to move inside the unit generating micro-sparks which in turn will generate a microscopic deposit that will isolate the contacts and shut the unit down.
Solutions include:
- Reduce the vibrations to which the unit is subjected
- Reduce the movement of your batteries by putting a single layer of electrical tape on the bottom of their bedding inside the unit
- You can also add a tiny neoprene pad between the contacts leaf springs to reinforce them
- Finally you can stop the buildup on the contacts by smearing dielectric grease on them so you isolate them from the atmospheric oxygen
