Ways to Upload

Upload Processing

Once MotionBased receives the data (via Agent, Manual Upload or Garmin Communicator) it processes the uploads asynchronously. This means that your upload is received and added to a queue for processing. In general this helps system performance, prioritizes processing, and provides upload feedback. Since uploads are queued for processing, the upload process takes longer during busy times and faster during slow times.

Priority

Not all uploads are created equal - Yes, we do discriminate! Higher priority uploads are processed first.

  1. Paying Customer's uploads are processed before non-paying customers
  2. Uploads sent from the MotionBased Agent receive priority over file uploads via internet browser
  3. Smaller files receive higher priority over large files. read more...
  4. We currently reject uploads with more than 5,000 trackpoints and files greater than 1 meg. Make sure your device is set to Smart Resolution!! Use Smart Recording for best upload results. Having problems getting your data to MotionBased? Check through the Upload Status Codes for more information.

Status

See Upload Status Codes to understand all the possible scenarios that may happen during your upload.

With the new process, sending data to Motionbased has significantly improved. Now, all MotionBased does is receive the file and store it. So, you wait only for transfer times while uploading. Then you can proceed to the Inbox to view the status of your uploads. It may already be processed and waiting for in the Inbox.

What may take a long time is the processing of your activities depending upon the priority of your upload. You will see the order you are in the queue and it will countdown until your file is processed. Estimated wait time is not possible since others with higher priority may upload and cut in front of you in the queue.

Come back in a few minutes and refresh your Inbox to see if your results have been processed.

Options

There are multiple ways of uploading to MotionBased, but most of them have similar options that can be chosen.

Time Conflicts Allowed

When chosen, the system will allow all activities to be processed during an upload and added to your Inbox. This is often undesirable since an upload may contain past activities that don't need to be re-added. For this reason, time conflicts allowed defaults to No so that only new activities will be re-added.

Time Conflicts: Mac

You can select to upload activities from the same day by checking the "Allow Time Conflicts" box prior to clicking "Upload."

Time Conflicts: PC

There are 2 ways to upload with Time Conflicts when using a PC.

Via Manual Upload

When uploading via the Manual Upload check the box for Allow Time Conflicts. Every activity in the file will be uploaded to your Inbox.

Via the Agent

To Allow Time Conflicts when uploading via the Agent simply check the bubble for "Always choose activities to send" under the Configure Agent section of the Agent. You will then be prompted to select the activities for upload from a list.

Tips

File Size - The smaller your uploads the less time it takes to process. Here are some tips to minize your file size:

  • Use Smart Recording instead of 1 second resolution
  • Use the MotionBased Agent to upload directly from the device, not the Training Center Export
  • If you are using the Mac Web Agent, be sure to delete your History on the device after a successful upload. This is only temporary.
  • Upload often to avoid stockpiling a bunch of activities into a single upload.
  • Uncompressed GPX and Training Center files will be given the lowest priority...Use the MotionBased Agent Import Files function and the file will be compressed and zipped for faster delivery.
